SSF Trash Fire Spreads to City Hall, $10K Damage

The fire on the north end of the building was called in at 1:36 a.m., according to the fire chief.

A fire in a trash bin spread to the South San Francisco City Hall Monday but no injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called to 315 Maple Ave. at 1:36 a.m., South San Francisco fire Chief Jesus Magallanes told Patch.

Though the call came in as an alarm from the building, arriving firefighters found flames coming out of the bin and licking the outside wall into some offices.

About 15 firefighters doused the flames -- the fire spread into the engineering offices -- but not before some equipment, furniture and paper had sustained fire, smoke and water damage.

The cost of the damage was estimated at $10,000, Magallanes told Patch.

Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the blaze, the chief said.
