In an effort to provide useful information to the city's Spanish-speaking residents, the Redwood City Police Department has created a Facebook page that will be conducted solely in Spanish.
Police Chief JR Gamez said social media offers a "game-changing resource" in terms of engaging with the Latino community.
"By creating a presence on this social media site, we are opening a new door of communication with our Spanish-speaking residents," Gamez said.
The Facebook page, which can be accessed at www.facebook.com/PoliciaDeRedwoodCity, will provide the Latino community with information related to personal safety, neighborhood updates, gang and drug
activity and human-interest stories.
This year, the Redwood City Police Department has tried to expand
on its social media strategies, including by using Twitter, Facebook, video
chat, YouTube and Flickr, Capt. John Spicer said.
