Two local teens are accused of breaking into a Redwood City home and burglarizing the place-- but they fleeing once they realized the house was equipped with a home surveillance system, police report.
The 17-year-old boys entered an unoccupied home through a second-story window in the 900 block of Glennan Drive around 9:50 a.m. Thursday, Lt. Sean Hart said in a press release. They ransacked the home for valuables looking for items that were easily transportable, Hart said.
"The resident’s security system captured digital video of the suspects gaining access to the residence and ransacking the interior of the residence for easily transportable property," he said. "Once the suspects realized there were cameras in the residence they fled leaving most of the property behind."
Responding officers reviewed the home's video surveillance footage and identified one of the two boys from prior police contacts, Hart said.
Detectives were able to locate that boy soon after and arrested him, according to Hart. The other boy was identified during the investigation late Thursday, Hart said.
Both boys were booked into juvenile hall on felony residential burglary charges.
