Redwood City Man, 62, Hit, Killed While Walking Early Monday Morning

The man died following the 2 a.m. crash, according to the CHP.

By Bay City News Service:

A 62-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Redwood City Monday morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Redwood City officers responded to a report of a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian at Middlefield Road north of Dumbarton Avenue shortly after 2 a.m., CHP Officer Art Montiel said.

The man was crossing east on Middlefield Road where he was struck by the front of a 2013 Nissan driving north, Montiel said. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as a 32-year-old man from Rochester, NY, stayed at the scene and was cooperative with investigators, Montiel said.

The driver did not appear to be under the influence of any substance, according to Montiel.

However, the pedestrian, identified as Miguel Ramirez of Redwood City, may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision, he said.

All lanes of Middlefield Road at Pacific Avenue were closed for about two-and-a-half hours.

The collision is under investigation and any witnesses are asked to call CHP Officer T.J. Taylor (650) 369-6261.
