Armed Robbery Suspect Surrenders (UPDATE)

After nearly a 12-hour standoff, a suspect in several robberies surrendered around 6 p.m.

A man suspected of committing of local liquor stores surrendered to local police at approximately 6 p.m.

After community members tipped off the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department, a SWAT team, the and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department all arrived to the house where suspect Miguel Angel Caballero, 30, was at.

Detectives from Redwood City Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant on Caballero’s residence where he rents a room. Evidence from the robbery crimes was recovered.

Caballero was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility for robbery.  The case will now be referred to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Neighbors from their homes and will slowly be returning this evening.

The have surrounded a house where the suspect of five robberies is believed to be, and he is refusing to come out, a San Mateo County sheriff's spokesman said.

The activity is occurring near the Caltrain tracks, and Caltrain service .

Miguel Angel Caballero, 30, has been tracked to a home on William Avenue near Third Avenue, where police and sheriff's deputies have been staked out since about 9 a.m., Lt. Larry Schumaker said.

As of 2 p.m., sheriff's deputies were continuing to try to get Caballero to come out, Schumaker said.

Caballero is the prime suspect in five armed robberies since Aug. 7 that have occurred at these businesses:

  1. , 37 Willow Street in Redwood City, Tuesday at approximately 7:43 p.m.
  2. , 2940 Middlefield Road, Wednesday at 3:34 p.m.
  3. , 2856 Middlefield Road, Thursday at 1:03 p.m.
  4. , 795 5th Avenue
  5. , 985 2nd Avenue, Tuesday, August 14 at 9:00 a.m.

The robber even pointed the gun at a pregnant clerk’s stomach, according to ABC News.
