Police Search for Driver in Friday's Fatal Hit-and-Run

The body of a 60-year-old Redwood City man was found on the side of the road in Atherton early Friday morning.

With little more to go on than a shoe found near the scene, the San Jose Mercury News reports that Atherton police are asking the public's help in locating the driver who fatally struck and killed 60-year-old Jeffry Alan Zeman of Redwood City on Friday morning.

Zeman's body was discovered near the corner of Glenwood Avenue near Middlefield Road in Atherton. Police received an anonymous call at 5:46 a.m. about the body, according to Lt. Joe Wade.

"We don't have any suspect information; we don't have any vehicle information," Wade added, according to the Merc.

Police say it is unclear when the crash occurred, but Zeman was pronounced dead shortly after arriving on the scene. A half-mile stretch of Middlefield Road between Encinal and Oak Grove avenues was closed until Friday afternoon while police conducted their investigation. A shoe, found 200 yards away from the scene, may have belonged to the victim, police say.

The Atherton Police Department is asking anyone with any information, or anyone who saw anything suspicious Friday morning 2 and 6 a.m., to contact them at 650-688-6500.
