Police Nab Alleged Robber by Following Electronic Tracking

Police say the suspect was also in possession of stuff taken in a home burglary.

The electronic tracking of a stolen cellphone Thursday helped Redwood City police nab a robbery suspect, whom they linked to a Redwood Shores residential burglary that had been reported earlier in the day.

Redwood City police reported that on Thursday around 11:30 a.m., a 16-year-old was walking on Broadway at Arguello Street near the city's downtown when he was approached from behind by a suspect claiming to have a gun. The suspect demanded the victim's cellphone and fled on foot after snatching it.

The victim was not injured during the robbery.

Police searched the area for the suspect and used electronic tracking to locate the suspect in the area of Manzanita Street and Hilton Street. Officers located the suspect in the 600 block of Manzanita Street.

A search of the suspect, a 17-year-old Redwood City resident, yielded electronic equipment, a Wii game system and jewelry that police believe was stolen during a residential burglary earlier that day at a home on Gunter Lane in Redwood Shores.

The juvenile suspect was arrested and taken to the San Mateo County Juvenile Hall on charges of robbery, residential burglary, and a gang enhancement.
