Video: Recology Truck Catches Fire, Closes Down Street

The Redwood City Fire Department closed down El Camino Real this morning to handle a truck that caught fire.

Gray smoke filled downtown Redwood City early this morning after a Recology truck caught fire, closing down both sides of El Camino Real on the 1000 block.

The street was closed for approximately two hours as the Redwood City Police Department and Fire Department extinguished the truck and transported all the waste from the truck into an open dumpster.

“The smell was so, so bad,” said Sara Sulikyan, the owner of , located on the 1000 block of El Camino Real.

She said Captain Ernesto Gomez had to escort her to her business.

No one apparently was hurt, Sulikyan said, and the driver of the truck was able to drive the truck out of the mess.
