Patriots' Edelman in Maximum Coverage after Player's Arrest

New England wide receiver and Redwood City native Julian Edelman arrested for groping woman, but upcoming face-off with New York Giants consumes team attention.

The New England Patriots coach and teammates alike are deflecting questions about wide receiver Julian Edelman's recent arrest.

The Redwood City native and Woodside High alumnus pleaded not guilty Tuesday to one count of indecent assault and battery after allegedly groping a woman during a Halloween party in Boston.

Since then, Edelman has done a disappearing act, leaving "his coach and teammates to face a line of questioning about the embarrassing episode and the impact it might have on preparations for Sunday’s game here against the New York Giants," writes Rich Garven of the Worcester Telegraph & Gazette.

"It's one of those things where you forget about it," running back Kevin Faulk told ESPN Boston. "It happened already, so you move on."

Edelman's agent Don Yee will "vigorously" will fight the charge, the Associated Press reported yesterday.

Sports Illustrated writer Mike Beacom counted Edelman as one of a handful of "underrated gems" heading into the postseason last year.

Edelman has been ordered to stay away from the Storyville bar where the alleged incident took place, and to have no contact with the alleged victim or witnesses. He is scheduled to return to court Jan. 10.
