The westbound lanes of a road leading to Interstate Highway 280 near Redwood City were shut down this afternoon after an oily substance leaked onto the roadway, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The leaking oil was reported at 2:25 p.m. on Edgewood Road.
The westbound lanes were shut down between Crestview Drive and the I-280 because of the slick roadway, CHP Officer Eric Anderson said.

Initial reports indicated a garbage truck was leaking oil onto the road.
The westbound lanes were expected to reopen around 5 p.m. after the oil was cleaned off the road.
