New Fireboat Unveiling Ceremony Rescheduled

The Redwood City Fire Department's new boat will be named by someone from the community.

The City of Redwood City acquired a new fireboat that will be used to fight fires on or near the shore.  Now it needs a name.

The Redwood City Fire Department crowdsourced names from children in the community and gathered more than 100 nominations.

The 10 names that made it to the final round are:

The name was scheduled to be unveiled at a ceremony this Saturday, August 10. However, the date has changed, said Sheri Costa-Batis, communications manager for the City of Redwood City.

“Redwood City rescheduled the Fireboat Celebration from August 10th to September 22nd so that the boat will have arrived in time for the celebration,” Costa-Bastis told Patch.  She said the reason it was rescheduled is to enable as many finalists who entered the city’s competition to make it to unveiling ceremony.

The new unveiling ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 675 Seaport Boulevard.

The special naming ceremony is free and open to the public.
