By Bay City News Service:

A motorcyclist was killed in a head-on crash on state Highway 35 in unincorporated San Mateo County south of Portola Valley Thursday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The crash was reported at 1:45 p.m. on Highway 35 about a quarter-mile south of Alpine Road, CHP Officer Amelia Jack said.

The male motorcyclist, whose name was not immediately available, was traveling south on the highway when he apparently crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a black Acura head-on, Jack said.

He was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Jack. She said it does not appear that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

The highway is expected to be blocked until later this afternoon because of the investigation into the fatal crash.
