A memorial will be held this Thursday for the late Christopher Ryan, a man from Redwood City who was found dead earlier this month after going missing for two days.
"A Tribute to Chris Ryan" will be held at James Logan High School in Redwood City, where Ryan was a teacher. It will take place Thursday at 3:45 p.m. inside the school's Performing Arts Center, according to a New Haven Unified School District press release.
Attendees are asked to dress professionally for the occasion.
“We think Chris would enjoy that,” Logan principal Amy McNamara said in a statement. She added that the teacher “always dressed beautifully.”
According to the district, the school’s library will be open during lunch periods so that students can write messages on special stationery, which will be presented to Ryan’s family after the ceremony.
“Chris loved books; many, many people the past few weeks have spoken about his intellect and love of learning,” McNamara said.
Ryan, 54, had worked at Logan since 1994. He taught English and social science, as well as worked as a part-time administrator.
His body was found at the bottom of a ravine off Interstate Highway 280 and Highway 92 along the Crystal Springs Reservoir in San Mateo County on Oct. 11.
Ryan was reported missing just two days prior.
According to authorities, he was considered to be at-risk because he needed daily medication for an undisclosed condition. His car was located the following day off the side of the road near the junction of highways 280 and 92 in San Mateo County. His cell phone and medication were inside.
His body was found not far from there the next day.
The cause of Ryan’s death is still under investigation, the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office told Patch on Tuesday, and it may take another two to four weeks before his cause of death is determined.
