Man Pleads 'No Contest' to Beating Bisexual Man with Bike Lock
According to District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe, Santos Manuel Marquez-Montiagudo, 37, will face up to five years in state prison when he is sentenced on May 7 for the San Mateo crime.

A man who severely beat a bisexual acquaintance with a bicycle lock pleaded no contest to charges of felony assault and inflicting great bodily injury Tuesday in San Mateo County Superior Court.
According to District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe, Santos Manuel Marquez-Montiagudo, 37, will face up to five years in state prison when he is sentenced on May 7.
Marquez-Montiagudo and his friend met the victim at a San Mateo taqueria on July 20. The victim disclosed to the two men that he was bisexual, according to prosecutors.
When the three men left to drink alcohol at another location, Marquez-Montiagudo allegedly told the victim not to walk near him because he didn't want to be mistaken as gay. When the victim refused to leave, he and Marquez-Montiagudo began to fight.
Prosecutors said Marquez-Montiagudo grabbed a U-lock from his bicycle and beat the victim ferociously, causing him to suffer a fractured skull, jaw, orbital and rib. Marquez-Montiagudo remains in custody on $1 million bail.
