Man Ejected Onto Highway After Crash on 280

Two lanes of traffic were closed while the second accident near Redwood City was resolved.

Two lanes of traffic on Interstate Highway 280 closed Thursday afternoon after a solo vehicle accident ejected a man from his car onto the highway.

The accident was reported at about 3 p.m. near Farm Hill Boulevard, said California Highway Patrol Officer Amelia Jack.  The 31-year-old man in a Subaru was heading southbound on 280 when the car driver in front of him came to a sudden stop, Jack said.

He swerved left to avoid crashing into the car and went into the center divide where his vehicle overturned, according to CHP. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle she said.

The man was taken to Stanford Hospital and is being treated for a fractured collarbone and injuries to his head. Officer Jack said he was conscious upon arrival.

"He was lucky," she said. "A lot of people that get ejected and suffer head injuries don't make it," Jack told Patch.

No drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident, she said. Lanes were reopened to through traffic.
