Man Assaulted, Robbed at San Carlos Home Depot

Sheriff's deputies remind citizens to be wary of online purchases that sound too good to be true.

A San Carlos man responding to an ad posted on Craig's List for discounted gift cards at Home Depot, was struck and robbed by two men in the store's parking lot Tuesday afternoon.

According to Dep. Rebecca Rosenblatt of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, on Tuesday at about 12:30 p.m., a 40-year-old San Carlos resident went to the parking lot of Home Depot located at 1125 Old County Rd. with the intention of purchasing gift cards at a discounted rate, as he had seen advertised on Craig's List, a classifieds website.

Rosenblatt says that once on the scene, the man was met by two Hispanic male adults in their 30’s who drove up in a four-door silver colored Lexus sedan (which was later determined to be a stolen vehicle, reported out of San Francisco). The two suspects exited the vehicle and demanded the victim’s money. When the victim refused, he was struck numerous times and the cash was forcibly taken from him.

The suspects then fled the area and were last seen driving eastbound on Brittan Avenue towards Highway 101, according to Rosenblatt.
