A home at 479 Sequoia Avenue in Redwood City caught on fire Friday evening at approximately 6:45 p.m.
A neighbor said she was just getting home when the roof of the home burst into flames, sending fire shooting up into the sky. Within moments, residents were evacuating the home, and as many as seven fire trucks from the Menlo Park Fire District were pulling up to the house.
According to neighbors, as of 8:30 p.m., that section of Sequoia Avenue is currently blocked off, and some residents are currently being kept away from their homes.
According to Redwood City-Woodside Patch reader Colleen Anderson, who lives nearby and witnessed the fire, the home's lot is just under a half-acre long, but the house is aging and not well-maintained, and she suspects a bad electrical system may have contributed to the fire.
Anderson told Patch the home was foreclosed on in 2009, and then was purchased for a much lower price not long after.
It appears the fire may have started in the roof or attic.
The home is also very close to a large transformer.
From what she can tell, Anderson believes all the home's occupants made it out safely and with no injuries.
Calls to the Redwood City Fire Department have not yet been returned. Patch will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
