Fire on Wheeler Drive Ends in Tragedy

Blaze claims life of beloved cat, Zachery Binx.

Sad news this morning on Wheeler Drive in Redwood City: Zachery Binx, a beloved cat, passed away from smoke inhalation.

Downy, his mother, was found years ago by someone I know. She carried the cat more than two miles home. As it turns out, the cat survived off the kindness of strangers and was pregnant.

Downy had her kittens in my home. All of the kittens were adopted, after being fixed except one — Zachery Binx (fixed but not adopted), a cute little black cat.

Mother and daughter lived for a number of years together only knowing each other due to the fact they were indoor cats. Tiffany was always afraid to let them out for fear they would get hurt.

Then on Wednesday, April 16, at 10:30 p.m., the duplex at 250 Wheeler Avenue in Redwood City caught on fire. My understanding is that it was from the lint in the dryer not being cleaned. Tiffany went to grab her two cats. Zack went under the bed and she couldn't get him, so she grabbed Downy and went outside. Then someone called the fire department. Tiffany kept telling the firefighters that Zach was still in the house. The fire department told her that he was a cat and that he would be ok. That isn't what happened.

Zack died in the bathroom, chances are looking for his mother and Tiffany.

Everything in her home is coverd in toxic smoke and she is meeting with the Red Cross this morning. She and Downy are currently safe with friends, but need help from our community.

What is needed now is a cat scratch, cat toys, and cat food.

This is a kid who just lost a huge part of her life.

Thanks to Dasha Beardsley, Inna & Todd's daughter, for helping Downy's kittens about 3 years ago.

This is a huge loss for a child. I remember when she had $100.00 in the bank, she spent most of it to take Zack to the vet, when he was sick. That says something.

Please help her.
