Coroner Identifies Woman Killed in Accident on Skyline

Skyline Boulevard was closed Thursday while law enforcement officials investigated.

The San Mateo County Coroner's office identified the woman who was killed in a vehicle accident on Skyline Boulevard on Thursday as Sarani Banerjee.

Banerjee was visiting her son from Howrah, India with her husband Kalyan Banerjee, who was also in the vehicle when it crashed.

At about 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Shamik Banerjee, 31, was driving northbound on Skyline Road with his parents, according to Art Montiel, California Highway Patrol Spokesperson. The family was traveling just south of Highway 84.

For reasons that are not clear, he lost control of his Toyota Camry and swerved into the southbound lane of traffic, crashing head on with a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The Camry overturned, landing on its roof.

Sarani Banerjee, 49, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to CHP records. Kalyan Banerjee, 61, was airlifted to Stanford Hospital where his injuries are being treated.  Shamik Banerjee had minor injuries.

Skyline Boulevard was closed for four hours, while law enforcement officials investigated the accident. Investigators say that alcohol and drugs did not play a role in the accident.

The driver of the Monte Carlo, Susan Michele Cozad, is from Nice, California.
Shamik Banerjee lives in Mountain View, California
