UPDATE: CHP Schedules DUI Checkpoint for Friday Night

The CHP will be looking for drunk drivers to prevent accidents.

Friday is going to be a glorious 80 degrees, and The Police tribute band “Stung” will be entertaining crowds at Music on the Square in . But plan accordingly to have designated drivers if you plan to consume alcohol because the is conducting another DUI checkpoint this Friday, Sept. 2.

Because there tends to be more people out driving on the weekends and in the summer in general, there can be more people driving under the influence, said Montiel.

There’s an exit that responsible drivers can spot and take if they want to avoid the checkpoint. But drunk drivers, Montiel said, often don't see the alternate exit and proceed through the checkpoint.

The last checkpoint on Aug. 19 was at El Camino Real and 5th Street.

“We just want people to drive safe and have a backup plan if their designated driver falls through,” Montiel told Patch.  

The CHP will release the exact location of the checkpoint two hours before the DUI operation begins.
