Beaumont 'Highland' Fire Burning Through Night

The fire at Potrero Road, near Wolfskill Extension Truck Trail, was reported at 1:20 p.m. Saturday.

A fire that started in rugged and steep terrain in the hills around Beaumont Saturday quickly raged into a blaze that scorched 2,000 acres of dry brush, fueled by hot winds blowing at 21 mph.

Firefighters -- from Riverside and San Diego counties, Pechanga, the U.S. Forest Service and March Air Reserve Base -- intended to work through the night to gain ground in the fight, already claiming 10 percent containment.

However, there was no estimate on when full containment or complete control would be achieved, according to Cal Fire officials.

"The fuels are very very dry, at this point," Cal Fire Capt. Rick Griggs told ABC 7.

Temperatures were expected to be even higher Sunday -- 96 degrees -- but winds were expected to lessen in force, to about 12 mph in a southwesterly direction.

Nearly 300 firefighters, aided by five air tankers and five helicopters, remained at the scene Saturday night.

MC - No hate for Beaumont. I moved here from San Diego. Love the weather, scenery, my house, etc, etc. The problem here is that the Police are criminals (I can fill you in on my experience with that cop that blinded the woman) the city council is corrupt. That is not the worst though. The worst are the small minded, conservative people who don't understand or question this mess. Get me?

Then please go back to San Diego, if you think it's so bad here. You've already made the statement that the police are criminal because they cite people for breaking the law...funny, I thought that was their job. And every city, from the smallest to the largest (yes, including your beloved "perfect" San Diego) has corruption in it's gov't. Don't like it? Then get involved yourself and change it. Of course that would require that you actually come up with viable solutions and work towards something constuctive, rather than just spouting foul cliches and tearing things/people down.

Gary - Goody here comes another Mr. Righteous out of the woodwork. The Police is breaking the law i.e, running stop signs and such. Not I. Again you didn't read but began to foam from the mouth once you thought I don't vote Republican. The bad news for you and the other small minded, Republican, law and order, hang em' high know it alls is that I am not leaving. Nope! This educated, non Republican voting, minority is stayin' put. Oh yea, it gets better: We are going to be in the majority soon. Ooops. Now what? LOL :)

Yup, just the type of response we all expected. At least you're consistent.
