Alert Citizens Aid Police in Finding Missing Woman on Thanksgiving Day

An elderly woman visiting from Japan who does not speak English and is unfamiliar with the local area went missing on Thanksgiving Day.

The Redwood City Police Department called upon the community Thanksgiving evening when a 77-year-old woman went missing.

Thankfully, that woman is back with her family tonight, after alert citizens quickly aided the police in locating her.

The Police Department sent out an urgent bulletin around 6 p.m. Thursday, alerting the public that Nobue Kanaishi, an elderly Asian woman, had gone missing.

The alert indicated that Kanasihi was considered an "at-risk" missing person that did not speak English and was "unfamiliar with the area," as she had just arrived in Redwood City from Japan two days ago, to visit relatives for the holiday week.

Kanaishi went missing around 12:30 a.m. early Thursday morning, after last being seen on Sussex Way. Family members believe she may have left the house for an early morning walk and became disoriented.

The Police Department cancelled the community alert when local citizens spotted the woman and notified the authorities, who helped reunite her with her family.

"The Redwood City Police Department would like to thank our alert citizens for their help," the department said in a statement.

Where was she found?

I'm not sure exactly where she was found, but the police said it was on a street 3 miles away from the home on Sussex Way where she was staying. So glad she was found safe!

She was found near Lowell St and James.

Vanessa and ctpiazza, Buckley Stone at Pete's Harbor says it is because some time ago the CityRead More dredged near muni and ran a pipe under to spill it out at Bair Island, so it is actually the remains of rotting sea life. He knows so much about this area having been at Pete's for 20 years and knowing so much about the area the tides and the nature and land around here.
