Regarding the Saltworks project... I told you so.

We've run out of time and money to save the wetlands.

The AOL Weather page had a fascinating piece about the dire future of our bay salt marshes.  You know, the marshes we sunk billions of dollars into to restore.  Apparently, unless we significantly ramp up our efforts to restore the rest of the available land (and by ramp up, I mean today) only 11 percent will remain above sea level in 50 years.

The problem is there is no money to complete the work.  If only we had some sort of deal with a developer to pour millions into the restoration coffers to accelerate the process.  We'd probably have to give up a few hundred acres of developable land on the bay shore but where would we find that land?

Oh! Wait! We do.  At least we did.

One of my primary arguments in favor of the Saltworks project was that it would not only preserve a siginficant portion of the wetlands immediately adjacent to the Don Edwards preserve and cover a significant amount of the Redwood City shoreline.  Opponents continue to say I was bought off for saying that and said there was plenty of time and public money to do the restoration.

Guess what? Looks like we're a day late and a dollar short.
