"... as you do to the least of these..."

Homelessness is a big deal for me.  And I don't know what to do about it.  I carry pockets of quarters and hand them out until I have no more.  I give to various charities.  I serve food to them with charities that provide it.  But it's not enough.  And whatever government programs and charity programs we have, it still doesn't seem to be enough.  But something must be done.
Then today I read a story shared with me on Facebook about a guy watching a homeless man steal a sandwich from Starbucks and the argument that ensued among patrons about whether he should be prosecuted.  It ended with the writer offering to pay for the sandwich after the fact.
We can spend a lot of time debating about the causes of poverty and homelessness.  We can call for more government programs and spending to take care of it.  Or maybe we can just pull up our big boy pants and say, "I'm not going to protest.  I'm not going to write my representative. I'm not going to complain about it. I'm going to do something."
People need to eat.  People need to bathe. People need a place to go to the bathroom. People need a place to sleep.
Today, if you can help one person that needs to do one of those things, then you have done something.
