Redwood City Readies for Salsa Festival

One of the Peninsula's most popular annual events will be held over an 11-block stretch of downtown on Saturday.

Peninsula residents looking to spice up their weekend won't have to go very far.

Redwood City will hold its fifth annual Salsa Festival on Saturday, with one of the Peninsula's most popular events expected to draw crowds well into the thousands.

The noon to 8 p.m. event will be held over an 11-block stretch of downtown, with most of the activities held on Broadway between Middlefield Road and Hamilton Street.

Among the festival's featured events are salsa competitions and tastings that will be held throughout the day, with amateur and professional chefs will competing for cash prizes in four categories (the top prize for the "People's Choice" salsa is $500).

The event also features live music with separate stages for Latin rock, salsa and Latin jazz. Tequila and beer tasting, carnival rides will be among the festival's featured activities.
