On My Way to Charlotte

My side trip to Charlotte....260 years in the making!

It's just 2 weeks before I leave for Charlotte, NC to attend the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

I'm arriving a couple of days early to make a little side trip.

For the last couple of years, I've been tracing my family history on ancestry.com.

I discovered that my Irish ancestor Thomas Benjamin Adair immigrated to the United States in 1730 and brought his family... eventually to settle in Laurens County, South Carolina in 1750 by a large grant of land from King George II.

He (at the age of 70) and his sons later became American patriots in the Revoluntionary War which started in 1775. Many of their homes were burned by the English around 1780 and therefore many family documents and records were destroyed. These original Adairs are buried in Laurens County.

My goal is to see where they lived, where they are buried and what records I'll be able find there. Look for photos and updates on or about September 1st and 2nd with reports from there!

One of my co-delegates from our district is doing a similar trip to me at the same time: Alicia Crank from Mt. View will be in Chester, SC.... which is one hour away from where I'll be. Being of African American descent, we both know her voyage of discovery will be very different from mine.

Here is HER blog: http://aliciainmtnview.wordpress.com/2012/08/15/18-days-til-charlotte-well-actually-16-for-me/  We can't wait to compare stories and photos of our time in South Carolina.

Editor's Note: Jeffrey Adair is a delegate for Anna Eshoo's congressional district at the Democratic National Convention. Check out his introduction and .
