RWC Library is 'Top Shelf' in National Ranking

The Redwood City Library was one of only three in the state to receive a five-star rating.

The City of Redwood City was informed this week that the city's library has again received the coveted "Five Star Rating" from the Library Journal Index of Public Library Service,  the premier public library national rating system instituted by the Library Journal.

According to a a press release by the City of Redwood City, this rating makes the Redwood City Public Library not only the top-rated library in San Mateo County, but also the top-rated library of any size in all of California. "

"What an honor for the great staff who have made our Library into a nationally-recognized program," the press release said.

Only three libraries in California achieved the Five Star Rating (and Redwood City's received the highest numerical score), which is based on per capita measurements including number of items borrowed, number of visits, number and types of programs offered, attendance at activities, level of public Internet use, and other elements.

The Library Journal Index of Public Library Service identified 263 "star" libraries throughout the United States. Overall, it rated 7,750 public libraries, and the top libraries in each group got three, four, or five Michelin guide-like stars.

The press release concluded, "The award-winning Redwood City Public Library connects the community and inspires a love of reading and learning through innovative, visionary programming and services such as literacy programs, access to technology, and safe, inviting spaces for youth and families. It's all online at www.redwoodcity.org/library."
