Farewell Redwood City!

Hi Redwood City,

This is a super bittersweet post, the last one I write as the official Redwood City Editor.

With a team of stellar writers, photographers and videographers, we launched Redwood City Patch in December 2010. In less than two years, it’s become the go-to source for news, events and conversation, all thanks to you: the community.

Before launching the site, I had no idea how successful and widely read it would become. I didn’t realize how much the residents of Redwood City cared about their community, the issues and their neighbors. You all thirsted for a platform where you could devour news articles and have lively—and sometimes heated—debates.

Ever motivated by this desire to give you everything you could wish to read, I tried to cover the heck out of Redwood City—and loved every moment of it. Covering the local elections in 2011, witnessing the Redwood City School District’s first parcel tax pass and spotlighting new businesses moving to Redwood City’s downtown were all joys to report on.

But it was also the people I profiled who will remain memorable always. Meeting the firefighter who helped search for victims of 9/11, a selfless hospital volunteer who hadn’t missed a consecutive day in 363 days, and the Boys & Girls Club members who turned their lives around towards careers in music, will forever be special to me.

But you are all in fantastic hands as Jennifer van der Kleut takes the reins (look for her welcome article Friday!)

Jennifer has guest edited numerous times for Redwood City Patch and was born at Sequoia Hospital, so she is highly familiar with all the news and events we’ve been covering in Redwood City.

This community will always have a special place in my heart, and I’m so thankful that I can still pop in from time to time.

So when I’m around town, please don’t hesitate to say hi, because you can’t get rid of me yet!
