Ferry & BART Schedules Expand for Big San Francisco Weekend

Music, baseball, sailing races and the Blue Angels are all happening this weekend in San Francisco.

According to a release from San Francisco Bay Ferry, ferry service "will more than triple its normal weekend capacity between the East Bay and San Francisco, and double service between Vallejo and San Francisco, this weekend, Oct. 6 and 7, 2012.   The extra service is needed because of the confluence of events in and around San Francisco this weekend."

The release goes on to say "tens of thousands of people are expected to converge on San Francisco over an unprecedented weekend of concurrent special events including Fleet Week, the America’s Cup trials, the Giants’ playoffs, 49ers football, the Castro Street Fair, and the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, among others – San Francisco Bay Ferry is ramping up to serve passengers during what could be one of the City’s busiest and most traffic-congested weekends of the year."

East Bay residents can take advantage of ferries on the Alameda-Oakland- San Francisco route running every 30-45 minutes beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Main Street Terminal in Alameda.  The last ferry from San Francisco to the East Bay will depart the Ferry Building at 10:45 p.m.

Solano and Napa County ferry riders will have four additional Vallejo departures to choose from during the weekend of Oct. 6-7.  The first ferry is scheduled to leave Vallejo at 8:30 a.m. and service will continue every 90 minutes until 7:30 p.m. both days.  The last ferry back to Vallejo will depart Pier 41 at 8:40 p.m.

San Francisco Giants fans who are going to the games this weekend can catch a boat going directly to AT&T Park.  Direct ferry service to AT&T Park departs Alameda Main Street at 4:40 p.m., Oakland Jack London Square at 4:50 p.m., and the Vallejo ferry terminal at 4:30 p.m.

BART is also running extra trains this weekend to help relieve congestion on the bridges and city streets.

Laurel, thank you for sharing your love for Redwood City and also setting the stage for other peopleRead More to express why it's such a great place to live. As a realtor and past resident, I'm a huge fan of Redwood City and am always telling my clients these very things. I think it's a great place to grow up, live and raise kids!

Laurel, your article hit home with me, also. I often tell people how happy I am to live in RedwoodRead More City. Your post describes some of the reasons why very well. Our town is a real community. As you described so well, there is a wonderful ease of connecting with people here and a sense that we can all be who we are and be welcome here. That is very special. Also, I feel that the wide variety of Redwood City's activities (like the Salsa Festival, but also all the remarkable diversity of events that happen all the time in Courthouse Square, cool events at the libraries, the Farmer's Markets, etc.) make this a vibrant, fun place to live. There are always interesting things to do here, most of which are either free or are very affordable. I feel like RWC's elected and appointed officials and other employees who provide key services for the citizens here (teachers, police, firefighters, librarians, Parks and Recreation Dept. employees, utilities employees, etc.) really care about its residents. Not only are there constantly fun things to do that are free or affordable, there are also many classes and education opportunities to support our needs in so many ways (looking for a job, preparing for an earthquake, etc.). It feels like a well-run city. I have only lived here a few years, but I am quite happy here and am very glad to be a resident of Redwood City. Thanks for writing this article!
