DID YOU KNOW That This Saturday February 15th is Romancing the Creek?

So if Friday is Valentine's Day, Saturday is Romancing the Creek Day.  This means it is your turn to come join us and help clean up Redwood Creek. The annual event is organized by the Redwood Creek Preservation Trust, the Redwood Creek Association, and the Peninsula Yacht Club.   An annual tradition that gives back to the Public Trust the clean up is led by Creek Master Dave MacCallum and staffed by the residents of Docktown.  This years event starts at 10 AM.  Volunteers are asked to gather at the Peninsula Yacht Club at 1536 Maple St. for supplies and territory assignments.

Redwood Creek is the tributary that carries all the water and a lot of garbage  from the hills in Redwood City, down to the San Francisco Bay and into our oceans.  What residents often don't appreciate is the incredible amount of garbage that really flows down our little creek.  In years past volunteers have collected several tons of garbage in less than two hours.  Incredibly with all the work that is done not only at this event but at other monthly clean up events, volunteers gather less than three percent of the garbage that flows down.

The fun part is getting in the kayaks, canoes and other dinghies residents provide visitors to travel up and down the creek.  Pickers and bags are also provided.  Experienced volunteers know to dress for the weather and bring gloves.  For even though one is doing a good deed one has a great time in the process.  Do your part this week-end and romance Redwood Creek!
