Proud to be Living in the '94002'

Show your Belmont pride with a limited edition t-shirt.

There may be other Belmonts in the U.S.--the one in New York is home to the famed racetrack; Belmont, Massachusetts made history during the Revolutionary War; and the small town of Belmont, North Carolina is home to Belmont Abbey College. But there's just one "beautiful mountain" (the French translation for Belmont) in this part of the world.

So to help identify residents, business owners and assorted Belmont, Calif. wanna-be's, (hear that San Carlos?), the Belmont Chamber of Commerce has designed a special t-shirt boasting that familiar Belmont postal zip code, 94002, on the front, and the area code, 650, on the back.

The blue Hanes t-shirts are available in adult sizes M,L,XL, and XXL for $15 each. To order, send your size, name, address, phone and email to:

A little bit of history. Belmont Mass. is our sister city per City Council resolution in 1976. We had a delegation come visit us from Belmont Mass. and we sent a delegation of citizens to visit Belmont Mass. Also while Belmont Ca was incorporated as a town in 1926 it was "established" in December 1850, when the first Road House was built at the corner of Old County Road and Ralston. We were still part of San Francisco County until 1856. Denny Lawhern Belmont Historian

Hello Belmont! When Belmont Patch first launched (October 2010 -- so long ago now!) I interviewed Dave Warden for a story about his trip to Belmont, Mass. I'm unable to search for it right now, but you should be able to find it in the Patch archives. There are a surprising number of similarities between Belmont, CA and the East Coast Belmont.

These new Belmont tshirts are just that.....new. That's probably why you got the response you did that city hall was unable to direct you to a source for Belmont clothing. FYI, I have a small supply of tshirts in my office at city hall (City Clerk's office), One Twin Pines Lane Suite 375.
