The Bay Area has always been known for its progressiveness, and innovative new startups. Adding to the myriad of environmentally-friendly businesses popping up in Redwood City this year is the new Eco Green Auto Clean car wash.
Eco Green Auto Clean is an environmentally friendly car wash service established in 2012. Located on El Camino Real, this innovative car wash company provides services priced at $14.99 and up and cleans cars using a technique that is less harsh on the environment than the average wash.
This hand-wash auto service has nine different formulas for cleaning the cars. These formulas are unique in that they strip the dirt from the car, as opposed to just washing it around with regular water. Once the dirt has been stripped, it is wiped away with a cloth, and coated with a protective layer of silicone to give the car a freshly-waxed look.
“Eco Green Auto Clean wants everybody to be aware that conserving water is a serious necessity,” said Founder Anton Van Happen. “Eco Green Auto Clean's services need to meet the expectations of our customers for cleaning their cars without using synthetic chemicals.”
Every year thousands of gallons of toxins such as oil, gasoline, and other chemicals are carelessly dumped into sewers. These sewers are direct transports to the world’s water supply and the pollution that this causes is detrimental to the environment.
“By using our Green Auto Wash, you are saving up to 50 gallons of water that would just go to waste,” said Van Happen.
With record breaking droughts in many parts of the world, fresh drinking water is a precious commodity.
“Eco Green Auto Clean is committed to take action and help against this cause,” said Van Happen. “Fresh water is more importantly needed for drinking and keeping the environment healthy. Eco Green Auto Clean wants to make sure that there is a future for our children, with drinking water.”
The philosophy behind Eco Green Auto Clean is simple: Be open to new ideas, use products that are free of harmful chemicals, and maintain the highest quality standards by ensuring Eco Green Auto Clean's products are more effective than their traditional counterparts.
The atmosphere at the car wash is another innovative quality that the company offers.
“We’re trying to make it more exclusive. It should feel like a lounge,” said Van Happen. The waiting lounge is already equipped with modern art, a comfy sitting area and suave lounge music, and Van Happen plans on putting in a full bar (excluding alcoholic drinks, of course) in the near future.
“When you start something these days, it’s going to be a lifestyle,” said Van Happen.
The ultimate goal of the Eco Green Auto Clean is to open physical locations in cities for customers to try out the products, and eventually move to apartment complexes and office buildings where patrons will pay a monthly fee to have their cars washed once a week.
Many disregard environmentally friendly products with the common misconception of the quality being sub-par to regular merchandise. This, however, is not true.
“My car looks 10x better than when I take it to a normal car wash- shinier, and all the black trim looks darker instead of bleached out,” said reviewer Jessie V. “I only did the exterior today, but will definitely do the interior next time! Another plus was the price- only 19 dollars for my SUV.”
So as the Bay Area strives to be greener, you can do your part to save water and prevent the dumping of toxic chemicals into the sewers, and get your car washed at Eco Green Auto Clean.

This business will be successful, though, by saving money on supplies and labor, which will beat out what the competition could pay. using less water and "eco-friendly" cleaners such as citric acid and biodegradable soaps saves money ... silicon is very abundant ... 90% of Earth's crust is made of silicate minerals and silicon accounts for over 1/4 of the earth's crust by weight... much cheaper to make than petroleum based counterparts, wouldn't you think? Also, this business owner will never offer upward mobility to his employees. Minimum wage... no more... someone asking for a raise would be reminded of the stack of applicants available to fill the position. by the very nature of the automobile, anything related to maintenance of the current paradigm could never be considered green. Let's call this for what it is.. a place for Upper and Middle Class white people to go to "feel" green while a "brown" person polishes their SUV or status symbol. That people will call "green" to sell something astounds me... this is not a green business!!! "frugal wash" would better describe this business, and people would still go, because it's $10 cheaper than anywhere else (for now) and has a great location.
I can't stand nay sayers like you. You MUST be a republican. ANd YES, it is green. They don't use any WATER, like Ducky's, the self serviuce wash down the street or the Shell station. The chemical-laden RUNOFF does not get into the ground water, or sewers because there is no WATER used. And they have made out litle corner of ELC very nice with their clean-looking building. Yeah, you are a republican, because you JUST DON'T GET IT!
There are better places to go where you can express your anger toward the Republican party. Just FYI, I am not a Republican and I do not hide behind my initials.
Yes, COH, I have been there. I reached out to the crew which was not diverse at all... They were all poor, and mostly people of color. I passed on information as to where economically underprivileged people can go to enroll in the Medicaid Expansion program, and explained that enrolment in the county's MCE and ACE programs would not compromise someone's immigration status. and no ... it is not green ... the term "Green Car-Wash" is like saying "Child-friendly Prison" and no, I am not affiliated with any political parties. The presidential race is a puppet show put on by the corporate media which ensures that we argue among ourselves about divisive topics ... the puppeteers have played black against white, men against women, gays against straight, republicans against democrat, and now that people have come to consensus around that, they are playing rich against poor.
