New Affordable Housing Development Breaks Ground in South City

The 109 rental units will be complemented by community and retail space.

On a windy Thursday morning, city leaders and residents gathered in the parking lot next to South San Francisco High School and the South San Francisco Unified School District to celebrate breaking ground on a 109-unit affordable apartment complex at 636 El Camino Real that will open its doors to tenants in 2013.

The development, funded by the South San Francisco Redevelopment Agency, San Mateo County, Union Bank, HEART of San Mateo County, the San Mateo County Housing Authority and Cal HFA-Mental Health Services Act to the tune of $48 million, will be a mixed-use space with ground-floor retail.

It sits on a former mobile home park, and monthly rents for a two-bedroom apartment will range from $447 to $1,210.

You can also check on MidPen's website (www.midpen-housing.org) as the project get's closer to completion. They will be accepting applications about a month or two prior and entering them into a lottery.

How can I get an application for this new place
Monica August 02, 2012 at 01:38 AM
Donna, they are done with the applications. People will start moving in around the middle of August. If you look at the website for midpeninsula you can see if they have spots open on the waiting list. but, that could take more than a year.
