There's just something about deep fried food ...
Monday, Jan. 7 is National Tempura Day and, lucky for Redwood City residents and workers, the dish can be found at several local restaurants.
The dish, first served in the 16th century, was introduced to the Japanese by Portuguese Jesuit missionaries. Tempura ingredients include prawns, sweet potato, various mushrooms and vegetables.
Here are a few Redwood City restaurants that offer tempura:
- Suisha House, 2053 Broadway
- Koto Teppanyaki Japanese Steak House, 373 Main St.
- All Season Sushi, 2432 Broadway
- Yokayama Japanese Restaurant, 1784 Broadway
- Ocean Garden Sushi & Gourmet Seafood, 30 Woodside Plaza
Where's the best tempura in Redwood City? In 2012, Suisha House and Yokohama were winners in our Readers' Choice surveys. In addition, Sakura Teppanyaki & Sushi and Bluefin Party Sushi & Teriyaki Grill have both been rated 4 to 5 stars by our readers.
