Corner Yogurt is sharing its one-year anniversary with its customers.

Redwood City’s first self-serve frozen yogurt shop “” on Woodside Road allows you to satisfy both cravings.

You can try chocolate frozen yogurt with cookie crumbles and a caramel drizzle. Or a light fruit sorbet with fresh strawberry pieces and bountiful blueberries. Corner Yogurt allows for an infinite mix of combinations of 10 different flavors plus over 40 toppings.

And this Sunday, all yogurt will be half off all day to celebrate the store’s one-year anniversary. So go crazy with chocolate or have fun with fruity flavors.

“It’s gone by really fast,” said manager Leslie Lopez, who has worked at Corner Yogurt since day one.

Employee Megan Hill recalled some memorable moments when a customer combined all 10 flavors into one cup. And finished the whole thing.

“People are quirky,” Hill said. “Their yogurt reflects their personality.”

Amidst the chic and trendy YogurtLands, Red Mangoes and L’Amours in Palo Alto and Menlo Park, husband and wife owners Bob Brda and Patricia Hill realized a couple of years ago that there was no self-serve frozen yogurt place in Redwood City.

The two were constantly driving to Yumi Yogurt to get their frozen yogurt fix, but the self-serve idea appealed to them, Brda said.

“People like that we sell yogurt by the ounce rather than standard sizes,” Brda said. “It’s appealing to people to decide how much they get.”

Though the two are not making a huge profit, Brda said, the store is self-sustaining. Seasonal frozen yogurt stores aren’t money machines, however, the warm weather and steady stream of customers have kept the store afloat toward its first birthday.

Brda is still the manager at FedEx and Patricia Hill is the director of software release at Motorola, but they enjoying making customers happy with their yogurt shop, Brda said.

“Well over 150 people have told us, ‘Thank you for opening. We needed this here,’” Brda said.

And it seems that the trend is here to stay. People love the do-it-yourself style of Corner Yogurt.

On for Corner Yogurt, reviewer Wini gave the place five stars and wrote “Totally epic. All my friends love it, and so do I! They're friendly and nice, and our visits are always happy and fun.”

Corner Yogurt’s bright colors reflect the employees’ friendly demeanor and bubbly attitudes.

Lopez said that the yogurt shop really caters to families, with Disney movies on the TVs and the fun gummy candies that take the form of snakes and frogs.

For the one-year anniversary, there will also be plenty of games and family-friendly activities.

“It’s where families come together,” she said.
