After Game 1 Win, Giants Ticket Prices Skyrocket

$19,000?! How high is too high?

Propelled by three Pablo Sandoval homers and stalwart pitching from Barry Zito, the San Francisco Giants rocketed to an 8-3 win in Game 1 of the 2012 World Series Wednesday night, and ticket prices for Thursday night’s Game 2 rose right along with the black and orange.

While prices on StubHub.com for Game 2 started at around $300 on Wednesday, the lowest price by the end of Game 1 had risen to nearly $460 for standing room-only tickets.

The high end of the price range for those same Game 2 tickets rose to an astounding $19,000 Wednesday night, with around 2,400 tickets still available.

Tack on hefty parking prices of more than $40 per car, and Giants fans heading to Game 2 are in for a pricey night.

Joellen Ferrer, spokeswoman for Stubhub, told the San Francisco Business Times that pricing “is still pretty on-par with what we saw in 2010” when the Giants won the World Series over the Texas Rangers. But overall, Stubhub search traffic for Giants World Series tickets is up about 20 percent over search levels during the 2010 World Series, she said.

"I'd walk over to McCovey Cove, strip down to my skivvies and jump in if someone put two tickets in my hand right now," Ed Manalong, 50, of Daly City told the San Francisco Chronicle. "The prices people are charging are crazy, and with the economy this bad, you have to be a little creative."
