Redwood Shores - BRSSD School Board candidate forum - another chance October 3rd

   The Redwood Shores Community Association and the BRSSD PTA council hosted an outstanding candidate forum last Monday. All seven candidates attended and more than 100 people were in the audience. All the questions and answers were respectful. This is democracy in action. Patch editor Joan Dentler reported on the forum here: Sept. 23 BRSSD candidate forum

    For the community members who missed out and were unable to attend, you have 2 more chances to see the BRSSD School Board candidates in open public forums:

This Week:

Thursday, October 3rd, 7 pm - at the Belmont Library;

Join your neighbors for an opportunity to question the candidates for the Belmont/Redwood Shores School District elections. The forum will be moderated by Gail Hardt of the League of Women Voters of North and Central San Mateo County. It will be conducted according to League of Women Voters policies and procedures, ensuring that each candidate has a fair chance to present his/her qualifications to the public. This forum is sponsored by the Belmont Library and the Friends of the Belmont Library and will include a reception with light refreshments.

In two and a half weeks:

Wednesday, October 16th, 6:30 pm - at Nesbit Elementary School;

Hear the candidates introduce themselves and respond to questions from the neighborhood associations and general public. Light refreshments will be provided, and all are welcome to join us for this free event.  Childcare during the forums will be available through Footsteps Childcare for $5/child.  Must be potty-trained and a minimum of 10 children are needed to provide this service.  Contact sterlingdowns94002@gmail.com to confirm availability. Sponsored by the Neighborhood Associations of Belmont.

    I urge all community members to take advantage of these opportunities to hear from the BRSSD School Board candidates and ask them questions. These enthusiastic individuals have volunteered to serve as our representatives and leaders of our local schools. They will play a key role in tackling the district's future challenges.

    (Note: I urge all members of the Belmont and Redwood Shores communities to attend and be involved - this includes parents with kids in the public schools (of course), but should also include parents sending their kids to private schools, people without kids, those with kids already out of K-8, and younger people yet to send kids to the schools. Public schools belong to all of us.)
