New details have emerged about a fatal crash that closed Interstate Highway 280 in Redwood City for three hours, according to the California Highway Patrol.

An unidentified 33-year-old Redwood City man died, a CHP collision report shows.

Two passengers—one from Campbell and another a San Jose resident—both who sustained minor injuries were transported to Stanford Hospital.

The crash reported at about 2:40 a.m. involved at least two cars that travelled southbound on 280 just north of Woodside Road. CHP responded and found a silver Toyota SUV, a Black Honda sedan and debris blocking the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes. The Toyota had three passengers and the Honda two.

A white male adult lay on the right shoulder of southbound 280.

According to CHP, it appears the Honda travelled at an unknown speed southbound on 280 just north of Woodside Road when for unknown reasons the Honda came into contact with the rear end of the Toyota.

The impact caused the driver of the Toyota to lose control and collide with the center divide. Shortly thereafter a Silver Jeep stopped on the right shoulder near the collision scene and the driver stepped out to assist the parties located within the lanes.

As the driver walked across the freeway lanes an oncoming southbound Infiniti SUV struck the man.

The driver of the Honda, 25-year-old Vallejo resident Charles Lawrence Miranda, was arrested for felony DUI (Driving Under the Influence) under vehicle code 23152(a)(b). Miranda was not booked for the death of victim.

The passenger of the Honda, 25-year-old Vallejo resident Brian Alberto Castellanos, was also arrested for public intoxication under penal code 647(f).

The driver of the Infiniti, a man from Fremont, was not arrested.

A Sig-alert issued at 3:31 a.m. closed all southbound 280 lanes from Farm Hill Boulevard to Woodside Road because of the debris. All lanes reopened at about 6:15 a.m., the CHP said.
