ARTS Redwood City

Meet Photographer and new Art Blogger Beth Mostovoy. Find out about ARTS RWC, and join in the conversation!

YO Redwood City!

My name is Beth Mostovoy and I am a Redwood City Artist.  A bunch of you may know me as Honeybear Prints Photography.  Others may know me for co-producing the last 5 years.  Guilty on both counts!

I have lived in Redwood City since 1989, and been involved with the Arts here since around 1995.  In 1999 Honeybear Prints was "born" and Photography became my full time job/passion.  I joined the Downtown Business Group (DBG) to keep Art in the conversation as the Redevelopment of the Downtown was taking shape.

I think Redwood City rocks!  I know folks have worked long and hard to establish Redwood City as the "Entertainment Destination" and have enjoyed great success. The programs and events we have enjoyed the last few years have been tremendous.  The more reasons we give people to come to Redwood City, the better it will be for us all, in my opinion. And, I believe that for Redwood City to fully realize ALL the possible potential, the same effort has to be made for Art, as well.

With some help and persistence, I helped to bring Phantom Gallery to the downtown.  That is now the successful Gallery Annex, adjoining the Century Theatre.  I also helped the Art Walk get started, briefly produced the Holiday Boutique at Hometown Holidays, and, of course, started Art on the Square.  About two years  ago, I sought out other Artists and Art Supporters and we bagan meeting to work together on how to offer, and promote more ART in Redwood City.

ARTS RWC was born (Aligning Art and Revitalization Together for Economic Success in RWC).  The folks at the table are great--talented and dedicated.  We meet once a month.  I am sure you will be hearing about and from them as we continue on this journey.  But the Gallery Annex, Broadway Art Center, Main Gallery, Linden Street Gallery, Sequoia Art Group, Parks and Rec, Civic Cultural Commission, Downtown Business Group and Redwood City Government and Business Development and individual artists (to give some examples) are meeting and talking about Art in Redwood City.

I believe that, despite the challenges we have all been facing, belief is strong that better days are coming.  And, as an artist, it has been a very tough time for selling and promoting Art.  But I really do believe in RWC and my vision of making us a "Destination for the Arts" and I hope there are more believers out there in Patch-land!

I hope YOU out there will join this conversation.  Consider yourself invited!  Let me know what kinds of Art you would like to see in our City. Send me info if you have a show coming up, or new work to share. Contact me if you want to join ARTS RWC and contribute time, energy and ideas on how to create and Art-full RWC. We are all creating this tapestry, weaving our stories, our songs, our hopes & dreams, our images and our memories strand by strand, brush stroke by brush stroke, TOGETHER.  All are welcome.

For now, I just wanted to introduce myself and give you some background on me.  The real story is the great Art stories, and Art that is being created and exhibited in Redwood City. Next time, I will let you know about some great shows and opportunities to support the Arts going on in the area.
