ARTSRWC: The first ART on the Square is thisclose. Time to meet one of our artists!

ARTSRWC: ART on the Square will be here June 14th! Meet one of our artists, Christine Oliver, who is also co-producing AOTS this year...and prepare to be amazed!

YO Redwood City!

Didja realize that the show is about to begin?  The first ART on the Square (AOTS) will be in less than a month, on June 14th. And, like last year, I would like to introduce you to some of our artists.  This spotlight will shine on Christine Oliver, painter and collager extraordinaire.  As you may remember, I started AOTS w/Julie Goodenough  seven years ago.  Julie has moved to Pittsburgh, PA and will be greatly missed.  A good friend of both of ours, Chris Oliver, has agreed to partner with me to produce ART on the Square for 2013.  So, it seems like you should meet her first. Warning: Prepare to be amazed!

Chris has been an exhibiting artist since 2000, participating in several juried art shows as well as Silicon Valley and Peninsula Valley Open Studios (where she met both Beth Mostovoy and Julie Goodenough). Her formal art training began with a BFA in printmaking, sculpture and drawing from the State University of New York at Binghamton (NY) and courses at the University of Cincinnati's acclaimed School of Design Art and Architecture (DAA) and at the Cincinnati Art Museum.   She has a degree in Graphic Design and  applied her art background and MBA courses to lead marketing communications programs for medical device, biotech and high tech companies in Silicon Valley for more than 20 years.

In 1995 Chris returned to taking and teaching art classes, including watercolor, acrylic and collage.  She has just completed a series of multimedia collage pieces using polaroid images and three dimensional totems, whimsically depicting roosters and chickens.

In her own words:  "My new work includes several watercolor landscapes based on global travels and a series of rooster paintings and collages. As a medical device marketer for both Varian Medical Systems and Elekta, located in Sunnyvale, I traveled abroad and my personal travel took me to Belize, India, and Kenya. My landscape work is representational and is inspired by stunning scenes in nature. I started creating rooster watercolors and collages in 2005, Year of the Rooster. I fell in love with roosters after seeing the Poultry exhibit at the Santa Cruz County Fair and I have been having fun painting them ever since."

To that I would say that  NO ONE  does chickens and roosters better than Chris - Wow!  And she has incredible range.  Her subjects and creations are all colorful, rich, and gorgeous and would make a lovely addition to your home!  Chris Oliver is no one trick chick.  See for yourself:  http://christineoliver.com/  and then check out her fabulous art at the first ART on the Square, coming to a downtown near you.

Chris is excited to be a part of ART on the Square.  “My interest in producing ART on the Square is the unique position they hold in the community. They bring art to the people and people to art”, she says. “The festive nature of these events, held in conjunction with Redwood City’s Music on the Square, invites local residents to enjoy local art and learn a bit more about how it is made.”

Yes, Chris, that is exactly what ART on the Square is all about. And we are thrilled to have her on board!  Be sure to come by and meet the talented Christine Oliver and experience her art!
