ARTSRWC: ART on the Square is next Friday w/PAL Blues, ART & BBQ

Artists abound in the PAL Blues, ART & BBQ Festival July 26-28. Here's a sneak peek at some local and not so local artists coming to Redwood City!

YO REDWOOD CITY!

Wow!  Where has this summer gone?  Thanks to everyone who made JEWELRY on the Square a BIG success.  AND, the next ART on the Square is just a week away!

To say we are excited would be an understatement!  AOTS will feature over 30 artists set up on Hamilton exhibiting terrific work at the PAL Blues, ART & BBQ Festival July 26-28.  It is our sixth year of teaming up with the Police Athletic League to support & contribute to their tremendous efforts in our RWC community.

We will have a continuation of the JOTS vibe, welcoming back some of your favorite jewelers from the show last week, plus some “usual Blues Festival suspects” such as Bruce Clark(silver & gold jewelry), Russ Hostleton(wind chimes), Yoshiko Suzuki(fused glass & Japenese kimonos)  & Teresa Abbott(southwest jewelry), to name a few artists you won’t want to miss.

We also welcome a few new faces, Jodi Timm(lazy susans & kitchen/party essentials), Tony Sigala (wood carvings) & Alicia Pratt(candles & body oils).  All in all, a fabulous group of artists are coming to Redwood City to offer you the chance to shop while you bop to the blues Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday

If that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite for GREAT ART to go with the tasty BBQ and Blues, it is time to

Meet your local artist: Xuan My Ho

Xuan My Ho has been an established mosaic artist in the Bay Area for over 10 years. She lives in Woodside, with her Husband Heip, who will also be selling his hand made pens and sharing Xuan’s booth at the show.

Xuan's subject matter often originates from her imagination, external inspiration, and her life as a Vietnamese refugee who has made a life in America. Employing graceful shapes, forms, and colors in her pieces reflects the beauty of nature such as earth, sky, mountains, waterscapes, and the world around her. Xuan loves the design challenge of using a wide variety of shapes. She works with two and three-dimensional objects to develop wall hangings, mirrors, water fountains, birdbaths, fireplaces, sculptures, and large scale murals.  One of her beautiful mosaics graces the 2013 ART on the Square postcard, which I am sure you have seen.

Encouraged by her family and friends, Xuan decided to show her work and make available for purchase through her website (www.swanmosaic.com), galleries, and art fairs.   Since her introduction to the mosaic art community, her work has been featured in several books and magazines. One of her pieces, the "Four Seasons" table set in "Wrought Iron Tables" section was acquired by a famous rock musician.

The mosaics she created since 2002 carry her hand-made Swan logo that represents the "signature" for all her mosaic pieces as Swan is the English pronunciation of Xuan's name.

Yo REDWOOD CITY!  Make sure you visit our local treasure Xuan, Heip and all the fabulous AOTS artists on Hamilton @ Courthouse Square.  Come for the ART and stay for the awesome blues bands and screaming BBQ.  It will be a weekend you won’t forget.
