The fall 2013 North Star Academy Shakespeare Program production is Taming of the Shrew, one of Shakespeare's best-loved comedies, playing up the shenanigans and fireworks when romantic matches are desired for either love or monetary gain.

In the play, a young gentleman of means, Lucentio, arrives in Padua to go to university, but immediately falls in love with a local beauty, Bianca.  She is already the object of attention of two vying suitors, but her father cannot even think of marrying her until his oldest daughter, the "shrew" Katharina is off his hands.  Fortunately, Petruchio, a brash and clever man of good breeding but few funds, is willing to take on the task of wooing–by subduing–Kate.

Director Neva Hutchinson's production will include the oft-omitted Induction and be themed in the fashion of commedia dell'arte.  The cast includes over 40 students from the 4th through 8th grades.  Live period music will be performed by the North Star Academy Youth Orchestra.  The script has been slightly modified for duration and age appropriateness.
