Renowned Food Writer Coming to Foster City
James Beard Award winner Sheila Himmel will speak at the Peninsula Jewish Community Center on Aug. 19.
For 10 years, Sheila Himmel was a familiar fixture on the food scene as a restaurant critic for the San Jose Mercury News. She has written for publications including USA Today and the Washington Post, and has been recognized with awards such as the Association of Food Journalists and Society of News Design.
Winner of the James Beard Award, Himmel is also the author of Hungry: A Mother and Daughter Fight Anorexia, in which she and her daughter chronicle their family’s personal battle with eating disorders and a food-obsessed culture.
The public is invited to attend What’s Not to Like on Monday, Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. Reservations are $4 and can be made by calling 650.378.2703.
