Redwood City Pianist Wins Awards at International Competition

Menlo School student Anna Boonyanit took home multiple awards at the 2013 International Russian Music Piano Competition, bringing home the gold in the Junior Category.

Booyanit, who lives in Redwood City, will be in 9th grade this fall. The thirteen-year-old performed magnificently and was deemed the best of 27 pianists who played in the Junior Category at San Jose’s Le Petit Trianon Theatre on June 16.

She also entered the Beethoven Sonata competition, which pitted her against 99 other players, some of whom were professional pianists twice her age.

At the end of all the performances, she took home the titles of Most Promising Young Talent, Best Bay Area Contestant, and Best Performance of Russian Music.

Boonyanit was invited to perform a recital at Carnegie Hall as part of her prize, and perform an opening concert at the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford Connecticut.
