PHOTOS OF THE DAY: Wednesday's Moon, Thursday Night Lights

Capturing the elusive at Half Moon Bay Recreation's intermediate photography class.

Stuart Nafey — a to Half Moon Bay Patch — teaches beginning and intermediate photography through the city's Recreation Department.

Nafey's photos — taken of a range of subjects including the , , local , the , and — always elicit appreciative comments from Half Moon Bay Patch readers.

When I learned of the intermediate photo class he teaches through the Recreation Department, I signed up to advance my own photography skills.

On Wednesday night, the class gathered on the side of Highway 1 with our tripods and cameras to catch the rising moon over Half Moon Bay's historic . Last night, we experimented with a range of shutter speeds, apertures, and ISO settings while taking photos of moving bright lights.

Nice shot, Kristine! Very dramatic with the white moon mirrored in the Johnston house, glowing out of the warm, dark background.

Great shot Kristine. I will be in Half Moon Bay this August to visit Stuart and enjoy all his expertise. Maybe even one of his classes.
