Kennedy Middle Schoolers Square Dance the Night Away

Missed out on an awesome night of square dancing? Check out the pictures and see for yourself an annual tradition for Kennedy Middle school students.

The 26th annual Sqaure Bowl competition was held on December 7, 2011 in the Gary Beban Gym. It was a night of root tootin’ cowboys and cowgirls, and a new addition of Hawaiian vacationers. The classic sqaure dancing songs that were both catchy and annoying at times when I was a Kennedy middle schooler were nonetheless the same, and the anticipation of winning Best Dressed or first place was seen in the waiting students.

A small performance from the special education class was a great addition. Many of those students began practicing in the summer and did a wonderful job. They were also the best dressed (in my opinion) because they wore glitter pink cowgirl hats.

There were not as many dancing groups as there has been in the past, so the 12 groups, which consisted of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, crowded onto the main floor and knocked out the 12 songs with a smile on every face, or when the judges were watching.

Since the number of students was a small amount, every participating student left with a trophy in hand and a memory captured by the camera-flashing parents.
