“The Secret Garden, Discover the Magic,” is this year’s theme for Filoli’s 24th annual Mother’s Day Flower Show beginning the evening of May 10th and continuing through May 13th, 2012. More than 75 exhibiting professional and amateur floral designers from the greater Bay Area will delight the senses with floral masterpieces depicting their interpretations of this year’s theme, including 18 exhibitors who participate in the de Young Museum’s Bouquets to Art. Imaginative floral spectacles of arrangements, table settings, special garden exhibits and floral vignettes compliment the splendor of the historic Filoli House and Garden. Visitors will also enjoy the children’s floral entries, miniatures, the exhibits of the Peninsula Orchid Society and the Sei Boku Bonsai Kai Club. Throughout the four-day event, visitors can enjoy flower chats, flower-arranging tips and demonstrations, garden vignettes, horticultural exhibits, and live music. A bee exhibit with beekeeper paraphernalia will be on display and Richard Baxter of the San Mateo Bee Guild will be available to talk about beekeeping and the workings of a bee hive.  The bee exhibit will be located by Filoli’s historic greenhouses, which will also be open to the public.

Tom Rogers, Filoli’s Curator for more than 22 years, who retired in 2011, has been chosen as the Honorary Chair for this year’s The Secret Garden, Discover the Magic Flower Show.  The Flower Show begins with the Opening Night Reception on Thursday evening, May 10th at 5:30 p.m. During this special evening, Tom Rogers’ contributions to Filoli will be celebrated. This Opening Night Reception is also a rare chance to stroll the Garden at twilight, view the floral arrangements and meet the designers, while enjoying live musical entertainment, wine and hors d’oeuvres.

Special Teas will be held on Friday, May 11th and on Saturday, May 12th, at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Mother’s Day Champagne Brunches will be held on Sunday, May 13th, at 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Additionally, pre-ordered boxed lunches will be available for Saturday and Sunday that can be enjoyed while listening to live music on the tennis court, surrounded by shaded oak trees. Early reservations are recommended as tickets sell out quickly and space is limited. General Admission is also available. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, April 2, 2012.

Visit www.filoli.org for complete information regarding Flower Show activities, Teas, Champagne Brunches and Pre-ordered Boxed lunches.
