The Minorities Stand Up – Comedy Through The Eyes of Minorities

A Chinese-American, a Trinidadian, a Chicano, and an Indian come together for a hilarious night of international introspection.

Edwin Li, Kevin Munroe & Samson Koletkar blast away at various mainstream media and entertainment stereotypes that portray minorities in the US as goofballs. Taking shots at the absurdities that they experience in America, they voice minority opinions and views through humour, while not shying away from highlighting the absurdities of their own cultures.

Edwin Li began working as a comedian at the age of 16, barreling through short open mike sets and hanging out in the wings of San Francisco’s Punch Line Comedy Club, picking the brains of any funnyman who would talk shop. His earnestness and shameless curiosity have made him a favorite with audiences of all persuasions. His rambunctious sets are a portrait of the wild, untamed energy of a Chinese American young man. Edwin has performed at SF SketchFest, Las Vegas Comedy Festival, Asian Week, and he’s a regular at all the A List clubs in the Bay Area. He has also been featured in the independent films Chinese Connection, Slap Stick and Come Back To Me. <www.edwinlicomedy.com>

Caribbean-born Kevin Munroe has been described as a "clever comic" who routinely flips American cultural conventions. Kevin began performing at colleges like Stanford, Sonoma State and UC Davis, then branched out to other venues. He was a finalist in the Rooster T. Feathers Comedy Competition three years in a row, earning First Runner Up in 2009. He won the 2010 Walk The Plank Comedy Competition, besting over 100 contestants. Kevin is now a regular at the Sacramento and San Francisco Punch Line Comedy Clubs, and has opened for national comedy legends and top new acts. <www.kevinmunroe.com>

Hailing from Gilroy, Chicano comedian Rodger Lizaola has been delighting audiences with his razor sharp wit, powerful stage presence, and his uncanny ability to say out loud what everyone is thinking! Weaving his ability to ad-lib and improve with tales from his childhood, life, loves, and the pursuit of that almighty dollar, Rodger leaves the audience with a positive message. He breaks down barriers and takes no prisoners, as his in your face style will have you rolling with laughter. Rodger was semi-finalist at Great American Comedy Festival, has performed at Las Vegas Comedy Festival, and opened up for popular acts such as Louis CK, Alonzo Bodden, The Black Eyed Peas and Pussycat Dolls. <www.rodgerlizaola.com>

Samson Koletkar was born and raised in Mumbai and moved to San Francisco to work in IT. From his beginnings as an immigrant Indian Jewish guy with zero experience with American standup, Samson brings a refreshingly new approach to cerebral, witty, thought-provoking clean humour with a global perspective. Driven by personal trials and tribulations, his socially aware comedy highlights religious, political, and social hypocrisies and issues, and day-to-day absurdities of human nature. Performing in India, Canada and all over the US, Samson is the creator of the Mahatma Moses Comedy Tour, a featured performer on the Funatical -  “We Come in Peace” interfaith tour, won the 2010 Asian American Theater Company Comedy Competition, and has entertained on the CBS Sunday Morning show. <www.mahatma-moses.com>
