The Golden Gate Blues Society Next Gen Blues Artists

Join blues fans in a concert raising funds to send Tip of the Top to Memphis for the International Blues Challenge. Support the Bay Area’s contribution to Next Gen blues artists by helping the Bay Area win international acclaim at the Feb. 2011 event.

Come hungry and ready to enjoy Dave Abbott’s Hard Core Barbecue. Raffle tickets will get you cool music memorabilia and other prizes and help Tip of the Top represent the SF Bay Area in the International Blues Challenge finals.

Tip of the Top features two veteran blues musicians, Jon Lawton (guitar and vocals) and Frank De Rose (bass) with new comers Aki Kumar (harmonica and vocals) and Carlos Velasco (snare drum). Their musical style is reminiscent of the 1950’s and their live show contains many of the musical styles that have come to be known as American Roots Music.

Alabama Mike is a hard-driving Chicago style blues singer with the ability to make you feel as if you’ve revisited the early Chess Records days. Mike’s soulful voice brings such greats as Elmore James, Buddy Guy and Little Johnny Taylor to mind. Born in Talladega, Alabama, in 1964, Alabama was influenced by the Gospel singing of his father at an early age, as well as Chicago Blues.

Bluestate is a band known for their “make no apologies”, non-traditional approach to the blues, blending elements of jazz, funk and soul into an eclectic contemporary gumbo that stills pays homage to blues roots.

Come early to Club Fox for good seating, eat some award winning barbecue, get in on the raffle prizes, and enjoy a Sunday afternoon on January 16 from 3 – 7 of world class blues and good fun.
