Redwood City Salsa Festival

Redwood City is going to be sizzling during its 5th annual Salsa Festival, on Saturday September 29th, 2012. Three stages featuring Latin Rock, Salsa, and Latin Jazz music will fire up Redwood City with music and dancing all day long. Amateur and professional Salsa Chefs will compete for fun, prizes and Salsa Glory, at the mouth watering and exciting Salsa Tasting & Competition, where the public takes part in the judging. Public tasting is from 12-5pm, but come early to be sure to sample the most popular! Along with tasty salsa, local restaurants will also offer their delicious fares throughout the day. The festival features public Tequila Tasting, FREE hands-on art projects, and a Children’s Play Area, complete with bounce houses, carnival rides, and more. Redwood City’s Salsa Festival guarantees a fun-filled day of tongue-tingling salsa, great activities, music, entertainment, dancing, food, beverages, and a wonderful time for the entire family from noon until 8 pm.

Encompassing 11 city blocks of Downtown Redwood City, much of the event takes place on Broadway between Middlefield and Hamilton and on the beautiful Theatre Way. Theatre Way and parts of Broadway will be pedestrian-only, making this a family-friendly event not to miss! Downtown Redwood City, with its lively and active music, theater, dining, and shopping scene, is truly the heart of the community and is know as the entertainment hub of the San Francisco Peninsula. Plus, Redwood City’s Caltrain station is just a short walk from Downtown and the festival. Amateur and professional salsa chefs can compete for fun, prizes, and Salsa Glory in this mouth watering and exciting Salsa Tasting & Competition at The Redwood City Salsa Festival on September 29th from 12pm-8pm, happening throughout Downtown Redwood City.

Teams can enter the salsa challenge as an individuals, or businesses. Choose between the categories of Mild and Hot. The festival goers will be able to purchase a tasting kit in order to cast their vote for the “People’s Choice Award.” Salsa will be judged by a qualified panel of judges based on aroma, consistency, color, appropriate heat level, taste and after-taste. This panel will also judge each team booth for Best Decorated.

Contestants must bring all equipment necessary for making their salsa. The tasting is from 12pm-5pm so they should be make enough Salsa to feed the public during that time (about 6 gallons).

The Salsa, including prep work, must be done on-site at the event. Canned ingredients are acceptable including tomatoes, tomato sauce, chilies, onions, garlic, salt, lime, and various spices, however all ingredients must be mixed together on-site. Pre-made or pre-mixed salsa will be disqualified from the competition.

Deadline for entries: August 31, 2012 (entries must be postmarked by this date)
Fees are $50.00 for Professionals (Caterer/Restaurant) and $50.00 for individual teams.
Space is limited, first come, first serve.
